Evaluation
During the creation of our DepicT short film, I fulfilled multiple roles to contribute as much as possible to the project. One of my main roles was as the story boarder. The shot lost was written and I drew every shot as accurately as possible in accordance to the angles and locations written. I completed most of the storyboard, excluding the outro. We hadn't yet figured out what we were going to do so I drew the final shot after we had completed filming. I was also an actor in the film, fulfilling the role of one of the interviewees, the screaming in the vents and 'The Goblin in the Cupboard'. I also acted as a makeup artist as I did my own makeup to become a goblin. Everyone in the group worked as directors and editors with all of us giving input to the final product. We took it in turns to give direction and edit both the footage and audio to create a final film we were all happy with. I haven't had a lot of previous experience in editing, but I contributed as much as possible. I cut down footage and synced it with the audio successfully to produce professional shots for a final quality film.
Our group was very pleased with our final DepicT film, though we did run into a few issues creating and finalising it. For example, we had a couple of lessons where we didn't have access to the SD card with all our footage and audio on, so we spent those lessons creating graphics and recording sound effects so we didn't waste any available time. As well as this, we had an issue with the final shot as it was too dark. We had to edit it in post production to heighten the exposure so it had the same brightness as the rest of our shots. The continuity in a film may not seem consistent, but we purposely did this as a part of the comedic tone. For example, the character Anita Viewer wears glasses in all the shots, excluding the last one. We deliberately did this as a small joke, though could be taken as a continuity error. However, we made sure to keep the rest of the film consistent so it wouldn't end up being too messy and confusing. Filming went very well and we managed to get it all done in time by filming some scenes after college and during our free periods.
We stuck to our pre-production work for quite a bit of filming, though did stray from the originally chosen way to shoot some of the scenes. For example, I drew Anita in all of the interviewing shots, but we had her out of shot when filming. We also filmed all the interviews as mid shots, whilst we originally decided on alternating between mid shots and over shoulder shots. However, this decision caused for better continuity across the interviews as they were all filmed in the same format. We also missed out one of the 'normal' questions as it disrupted the flow of the increasingly weird questions. There was also a change in location for some of the questions, such as filming in The Hive instead of the cafeteria. This decision was made because the cafeteria was shut whilst we were filming that question. However, the rest of the shots are roughly the same as the story board, with minimal tweaking in angles and shot types.
